To be Rescheduled….Family Concert/Songwriting Program

The upcoming Lydia Adams Davis Family Concert and the Songwriting class scheduled for Wednesday, July 25th, at the Holmes Whaley Lake Civic Association are cancelled. Instead, we will be rescheduling the events for later in the summer. We look forward to working with Ms. Davis later in the summer. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes interested attendees. TWO LIVES IN ART

(Writing, Plays, Films and Novel), Acting and Directing International Theatre, Film/TV- novelist playwright Sarah Levine Simon (recently deceased) and actor/director Roger Hendricks Simon. Tuesday, July 24 7:00-8:00 pm Mr. Simon will discuss Ms. Levine Simon’s recent novel WINGED VICTORY and their theatre and film work in NYC, L.A., London and internationally. About our presenter: Roger Hendricks Simon played Bernie Jacobs in Oliver Stone’s WALL STREET, MONEY NEVER SLEEPS (Blue Ray DVD) opposite Michael Douglas and Josh Brolin, he previously received critical acclaim for playing the lead role in Best Feature and Audience Favorite award winner THE SUBLET. A graduate of Yale School of Drama and founding member of Robert Brustein’s Yale Rep Co. in ’67, he was elected to Notable Names in American Theatre for directing, acting and producing for Yale Rep, Joe Papp’s N.Y. Intro to Calligraphy

Matters of the Heart

Wednesday, July 11 7:00-8:00 pm Heart disease is the number one leading cause of death amongst men and women in the US. In fact the first sign of heart disease in 50% of all cardiac deaths is death itself. However, there is a variety of alternative methods of early detection and natural treatments that most doctors don’t know about. In this lecture Dr. Ken Hoffman will present many cutting edge approaches to detection of early risk, natural treatments that can reverse these risks including diet and lifestyle advice. This lecture is a must if you want to learn how to avoid becoming a statistic. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Hoffman will be doing a free Heart screening using a non-invasive test called the DPA (Digital Pulse Wave Analysis). Registration is required. Reading consistently each week during the summer can be enough to stop a child’s reading ability from weakening. No matter your age, reading three or more days a week is ideal. This summer, you can track your reading with the Pawling Library’s Summer Reading Program! To get started, come into the library and pick up a Summer Reading Program Booklet. Our booklets track reading week by week, giving you the freedom to set unique reading goals for your family. If you are away this summer, do not worry! You can track your reading using the Reader Zone app for your Android, Apple, or Kindle device. You can also use Reader Zone on your desktop. Create an account and use the access code pawling-free. Throughout the summer when you participate in our Summer Reading Program, you can receive weekly prizes including forever books, science and craft kits, and more. Calling All Teen Adventurers

Dungeons and Dragons is being added to this summer’s teen program schedule. Teens ages 10-18 can join our band of adventurers on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM in the library. We will be playing Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. No previous experience is necessary. Contact Kate at teen@pawlinglibrary.org for more information and to sign up to play.

Children’s Summer 2018 Programs Registration Available

Summer is here, and there’s tons of exciting programs happening for children in the library! From Lydia Adams Davis’ family concert to our Core Literacy Camps, summer programs abound! Registration forms are available now! You can find them here. You can also stop by and pick up a form from the circulation desk or register online through our online portal.  A general guide to our programs can be found here. Registration for our summer session programs runs from Wednesday, June 13th to Monday, July 2nd. Registration is required for all events. The  registration will operate using a lottery system, as in previous years. Come drop off your form at any point during the library’s regular hours at the library’s circulation desk, pick a lottery number, and get ready for summer learning. If you register online, the computer will assign your number for you. Please plan to fill out one form per family. A Conversation with Ron Steinman: 35 Years with NBC News

Tuesday, June 19 7:00-8:00 pm Ron Steinman, winner of the Peabody Award, a National Press Club award, two American Women in Radio & Television Awards, and five time Emmy nominee, will be sharing with us some of his most memorable experiences at NBC. About our presenter: With NBC News for 35 years, I was a writer and field producer on the Huntley-Brinkley show before going to Saigon as bureau chief in 1966 for more than three years, and covering the war off and on until 1973. He served as South East Asia bureau chief based in Hong Kong and then London bureau chief during the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland. He was Washington producer for Today and senior producer on Early Today and in the news division.
