Book Launch Party!

Saturday, October 15, 4:30 – 5:30 PM Free. Drop ins welcome, authors should contact Miss Neena directly to RSVP and collect their books. Our Make Me An Author summer program participants created their own picture books and we published them! Join our new authors, ages 5-12, as we celebrate their new books and get a peek at their incredible creations! The community is invited to join for this after hours event featuring snacks, book previews from the authors, and more. REMINDER: Our first raffle in our Summer Reading Challenge will be 7/15! If you’ve been logging your reading online or with a paper log, you’ve been earning raffle tickets to win prizes in our raffles! But have you stopped by the library to fill them out and pick up your other prizes? Want a chance to win? Kids and teens who have leveled up in the Summer Reading Challenge will need to stop by the library before 7/15 to pick up prizes and enter their raffle tickets or contact program coordinator Neena to redeem their tickets. Adult participants do not need to stop by; their tickets are automatically entered for them! For the 7/15 raffle, you could win tickets to games from awesome area teams like the Hudson Valley Renegades, New York Red Bulls, and Danbury Westerners. Got questions? Looking for something to do while schools are closed on Tuesday, October 11? Got a preschooler or toddler who loves to dance and bubbles? Bubble Bus Party Free! Register here Tuesday, 10/11 on the day off from school 1:00-3:00 PM at Pawling Recreation’s Lakeside Park 2 Lakeside Drive, Pawling NY 12564 Join us on 10/11 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM for a special visit from the Bubble Bus. This one-of-a kind bus sprays hundreds of thousands of bubbles and is like no other bubble experience. A huge hit for all ages, the bubble bus is a fun time for kids to dance, run, and pop their way through a field of bubbles. In addition, the Pawling Library team will be on hand connecting our bubble play back to learning, getting kids to think about mindfulness and stress relief through bubbles and books! Have you visited the StoryWalk® set up at Pawling Recreation’s Lakeside Park? Take a family walk and read along to Hiking Day by Anne Rockwell. If you do visit, please don’t forget to leave us a message in our tracking book. And if you come across any damage or missing pages, please contact the library at 845-855-3444 or children@pawlinglibrary.org to let us know! Thank you to Town of Pawling Recreation Department and the Mid-Hudson Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club for partnering with us on this project. Please note that this StoryWalk will be on display until 12/17/21. The program will return with a new story in 2022! Meet a Superhero!

Avengers, assemble! Captain Marvel will be stopping by our Facebook Live storytime group today, Thursday, 8/12/21 at 4:30 PM EST to share stories about her adventures and chat with families about her awesome superhero life! Beat the heat inside as Captain Marvel responds to children’s questions and comments by name! Can’t make the live show? A recording will be available in the storytime group shortly after the airing. This program is part of our Mid-Hudson Library System Princess and Superhero storytime series. The next special guests will be Supergirl on September 9th and Belle from Beauty and the Beast on October 14. Thank you to our partner libraries and Parties with Character for making this program series accessible for our community.  

Thank you Summer Readers!

WOW! Thank you to our Tails and Tales Summer Readers who read over 33,000 minutes (550 hours) this summer to earn our library a new marketplace learning center!   Plus, the Kid’s Team Won the Reading Challenge! The marketplace is now available for families to use in our children’s area. It is designed to help our preschool and toddler patrons learn through play and will feature rotating themes of play such as grocery store, tools and repair, and a flower shop. The repair shop is open now, with alphabet locks, gears, and a pint-sized tool box. Stop by and check it out! To wrap up the program: At the close of our six week Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge, the kid’s team won the Summer Reading Crown for the second summer in a row! Congrats to everyone on the kid’s team who each earned an extra raffle ticket for our big prize raffle and bragging rights as the reading champions!

Summer Reading Update: Almost at Community Goal!

The Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge is well underway. In fact, we have almost met our community goal!  With a group total of 19,708 minutes, we need just a little more help to earn our new kid’s area play set. Here are the team standings: Image is of three cats looking at a fishbowl. The colors on their tails show how much progress each team has made logging reading time. From left to right the cats are adults, kids, and teens. First Place: Kids (12, 214 minutes) Second Place: Adults (6,975 minutes) Third Place: Teens (519 minutes) Great things happen when we work together! When we hit 20,000, we will earn our community prize, plus new raffle prizes will be added to the pot for you to win, like gift cards to McKinney and Doyle. The more you read, the more you earn, including free books to keep! Plus, the winning team will earn bragging rights and the Summer Reading Champions Crown. BIG NEWS! The Kids (ages 0-10) now lead in our Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge!  What age group can read the most this summer? Here are the standings: First Place: Kids (6,205 minutes) Second Place: Adults (2,960 minutes) Third Place: Teens (300 minutes) Together, our community has read 9,465 minutes this summer! We’re almost halfway to our goal of 20,000 minutes! Keep up the great work! Want to get involved and help your team? Want to win free books and other prizes?
