The Fritts Family Grows a Reader!

  Congratulations to the Fritts family who was recently added to our Read Together Wall of Fame!  The Frittses read 1,000 books as they participated in our Read Together Program where families are encouraged to “plant the seeds of literacy” by reading regularly to their children at home.

Library After Hours

Saturday, March 25, 6:00 – 8:00 PM There is a new program for teens at the Pawling Library! Every last Saturday of the month, teens are invited to attend Library After Hours, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, after the library closes for the day. Each month the program will have a different theme and activities. March’s theme is the Great Library Escape Game! Work in teams to find clues and escape the library! The game was created by Chris Grabenstein, the author of Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library. Read more about the program here. Registration is required. Quick and Healthy Meals and Snacks

with Eat Smart Nutrition educator Bintou Hinds Wednesday, March 22 / 7:00-8:00 pm This workshop will give you tips on preparing meals quickly and stocking your pantry. We will also share the tools you need to make healthy selections when eating out and learn how to use a slow cooker to prepare easy, healthy meals. Try a sample of a new recipe during each workshop. The Horse I Belong To

Tuesday, February 28 7:00-8:00 pm A broken human encounters an abandoned horse of no particular parentage. A remarkable relationship ensues. They heal each other, and both are profoundly changed: The human overcomes substance abuse and depression; the horse becomes a champion. Please join us as local author Stephanie Rogers shares with us passages from her autobiography The Horse I Belong To: How a Misused and Almost Forgotten Grade Mare Showed Me the Way. The Mystery of the Missing Apple: SOLVED!

Students gathered on Friday evening for a rare chance to view the exclusive diamond-crystal apple on display at the Pawling Library. However, during the evening the apple fell into unscrupulous hands. Who took the apple?  Why?  Where was it hidden? Read all about it!

The Burlingtons are Growing their Readers!

Congratulations to Megan, Joseph & Meredith our latest family to read 1,000 books together!  They are part of our Read Together Program where families are encouraged to read regularly together in order to “plant the seeds of literacy” in their children. Megan felt the whole family enjoyed this program,  “I’m not sure who had more fun completing this challenge, me or the kids! We read every book we could find featuring their most beloved characters and also gave unknown authors a try, and we discovered a few new favorites along the way. A Hot Race Right to the Finish!

Pawling Library Reading Rally participants gathered on a very hot and sticky Saturday to eat ice cream sundaes and find out the final results of this summer’s reading competition.  Everyone worked hard and as a community we read 342,204 minutes…that 5,703 hours of reading.  That’s amazing!
