Students gathered on Friday evening for a rare chance to view the exclusive diamond-crystal apple on display at the Pawling Library. However, during the evening the apple fell into unscrupulous hands. Who took the apple?  Why?  Where was it hidden? Read all about it!

Congratulations to Megan, Joseph & Meredith our latest family to read 1,000 books together!  They are part of our Read Together Program where families are encouraged to read regularly together in order to “plant the seeds of literacy” in their children. Megan felt the whole family enjoyed this program,  “I’m not sure who had more fun completing this challenge, me or the kids! We read every book we could find featuring their most beloved characters and also gave unknown authors a try, and we discovered a few new favorites along the way. Children’s Fall Programs are up and running!  Please call the library to confirm your child’s registration status.  If you missed registration you can still call the library at 855-3444 to check on program availability for your child!

Summer Volunteer Applications are due Saturday, May 28th. We are looking for volunteers ages 12 – 18 years to help with our Core Literacy, Book Buddy, Library Legion and Internet Support Programs. Summer programs will run from July 5th through August 27th, but the date and time commitments are flexible. Interested students should  print, complete and submit a 2016 Summer Volunteer Intern Application by Saturday, May 28th.  Applications are also available at the library circulation desk.  All students will have the opportunity to log hours to apply toward their community service requirements. If your child is 2 ½ – 3 ½ years old and you are looking for a language rich literacy program to attend, then look no further! The Pawling Library has the perfect program.  Dynamic Duos is a weekly parent and child program that introduces children to group literacy programs with 45 minute sessions that develop critical early literacy and language skills that are important to your child’s future reading success.  During the program, we’ll listen to books, discuss what’s happening in the story, talk about important story words, engage the children in listen and think activities and we even use rhythm instruments to encourage movement, sensitivity to word parts and rhyming!  We always end with a development activity that encourages socializing, fine motor development, language skills and vocabulary.  The five recommended activities to develop early literacy skills are read, talk, play, sing and write and we use four of these activities every week!
