Tuesday, March 24 7:00-8:00 pm The UN celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. What exactly is this organization, created in the aftermath of WWII, that now has 193 nation state members? Is it a world government? Does the UN Declaration of Human Rights contradict the US Declaration of Independence? What are its successes, failures and opportunities? In this presentation, Dr. Kambalov, shares 21 years of personal experience at the UN and opens an exploration of the nuts and bolts of this institution, inviting questions and comments. About our presenter: Dr. Sergei Kambalov was the Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies and Development before retirement in 2010 after 21 years of service at the UN. Prior to joining the UN in 1989, he was a First Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, and before that he worked in academic research on international economic relations. For caregivers, learning to decode messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language can help both parties to connect and communicate in meaningful ways. This program will help explain the communication changes that take place in a person with dementia and identify strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. Friday, 2/28, 1:00-2:00 pm Local ballerina, dance teacher, and reading role model Rachel Hamdan will stop by the library for a very special story hour. She will bring costumes, shoes, and go over a few basic moves with attendees. In addition, she will read a favorite dancing story book and discuss why she LOVES to read! We suggest families discuss what questions kids may want to ask Rachel, as there will be time for Q&A. Caregivers are required to remain in the library for the duration of the program.
