About our presenters: Walter Woodhouse: Before retiring in 2012, Mr. Woodhouse was Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for Nyack Public Schools, where he began as the English Department Chair. He also served as Assistant Headmaster at the Rockland Country Day School, where he began as a teacher. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon in Eugene, as well as an M.A. in Education from Pace University. At every gathering each person has 10 minutes to share a story with our group members in a very supportive environment. No one’s work and writing skills are ever critiqued. Your unique style of writing is the right way to write. Please join us every month. Relive your memories that will one day become your memoir. Surprise your family who’ve wanted you to do this. This will be the final meeting of the Great Stories Club. During this meeting we will talk about the book American Street by Ibi Zoboi . We will end with a celebration of what we have accomplished. This book is available in both English. The Pawling Library is honored to have been selected as one of 58 libraries nationwide to take part in the Great Stories Club, a reading and discussion program for underserved teens. These competitive grants are offered by the American Library Association (ALA) with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The Library has received two Great Stories Grants and is partnering with Camino al Éxito to bring teens age 13 & up a book discussion series in English & Spanish. Homeschool Space: Elementary Third Thursday of the Month (04/18, 05/16, & 6/20), 1:00-2:00 PM – Neena, Library Annex Age range: Homeschoolers ages 5-10, or those homeschooling in Kindergarten – 4th grade. Each month, homeschoolers come together to work on a fun, engaging project with friends and other homeschoolers in our region. The theme for May's meeting is air hockey science, featuring KiwiCo products. Kids will learn about lift and work together in groups to build an air hockey "table." We will conclude with free play using the materials they built. Registration is required. Please register for each month you wish to attend independently.

Three Little Pigs and a Robot with indi robots Friday, 05/17, 4:30 - 5:30 PM Age range: 3-8 years old and a caregiver In this program, kids are caregivers will work together to help our indi robots retell the tale of the Three Little Pigs. We'll start by recapping the favorite fairy tale and learning the basics of how the library's indi bots work. Designed specifically for pre-k through 2nd graders, indi bots are kid-favorites! After learning the basics, kids and caregivers will design their own track to retell the story together and/or with friends. Space is limited in this program, and registration is required. If all spaces fill, please sign up for our wait list and our team will notify you if space becomes available.

Three Little Pigs and a Robot with indi robots Friday, 05/17, 5:45 - 6:45 PM Age range: 3-8 years old and a caregiver In this program, kids are caregivers will work together to help our indi robots retell the tale of the Three Little Pigs. We'll start by recapping the favorite fairy tale and learning the basics of how the library's indi bots work. Designed specifically for pre-k through 2nd graders, indi bots are kid-favorites! After learning the basics, kids and caregivers will design their own track to retell the story together and/or with friends. Space is limited in this program, and registration is required. We welcome books of fiction, short stories, nonfiction, and poetry. About our presenters: Walter Woodhouse: Before retiring in 2012, Mr. Woodhouse was Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for Nyack Public Schools, where he began as the English Department Chair. He also served as Assistant Headmaster at the Rockland Country Day School, where he began as a teacher. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon in Eugene, as well as an M.A. in Education from Pace University.
