Coop Program: Rainbow Valley Eclipse Presentation Friday, 04/05, 1:30-2:30 pm Main Library/ Library Annex with Neena This is a field trip for the Rainbow Valley Homeschool Co-op, for ages 6-13. Join Library Children’s Program Coordinator Neena McBaer for an exploration of solar eclipses in advance of the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. This program will include a short presentation about solar eclipses, highlighting what to expect when safely viewing a solar eclipse and explaining this amazing, rare phenomenon. After, youth and families will be invited to participate in several hands-on activities, including a virtual eclipse simulator, estimation games, and making a pinhole camera.

Meet Pete the Cat All ages and a caregiver Saturday, 06/01, 4:30-5:15 pm *Event held at Lakeside Park as part of Pawling Community Day* 2 Lakeside Dr. Pawling, NY 12564 In partnership with Pawling Recreation Hey creative cats! Join us for a story time at the park featuring a visit from Pete the Cat. This cool blue kitty from author/illustrator team James and Kimberly Dean will give out stickers, high fives, and take pictures with fans. Bring a blanket to sit on as we read a Pete the cat story and enjoy a related craft. Pawling Community Day is a drop-in event, made possible by Pawling Recreation. Registration is not required. RSVP below for a reminder a few days before the event!

Homeschool Space: Postcards to Space project

Homeschool Space: Postcards to Space Monday, November 13, 2023 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM Library Annex Age range: Homeschoolers in grades K-8 and their families Participate in the Postcards to Space art project before we meet Astronaut Nicole Stott on November 16. We will talk about the project, which is run by the Space for Art Foundation with groups of youth across the globe,  and each postcard’s journey to space. Then, kids will work on their own to design their own postcard. Postcards will be collected and presented to Astronaut Nicole Stott during her Homeschool event on November 16 and sent to space on a Blue Origin Space ship. After their journey, the postcards will be returned to participants as a keepsake. Registration is required. Can’t make it to our creation hour? Literacy Heroes: Kids Meet an Astronaut Thursday, November 16, 2023, 12:15 PM – 1:00 PM Lathrop Building Auditorium, Town of Pawling Recreation 2 Lakeside Drive, Pawling, NY 12564 Age range: Homeschoolers in grades K-8 and their families The Pawling Library, Pawling Recreation, Dutchess County, and Pawling Central School District are proud to provide area homeschoolers with the opportunity to meet and learn about veteran NASA astronaut Nicole Stott. This event will include a 10-15 minute presentation, including video of Nicole on a spacewalk, an opportunity for youth questions, and the presentation of all local homeschoolers’ Postcards to Space, pre-created postcards students have drawn and written that will be sent to space and returned to the homeschoolers after their journey. This program is paid for in part by Dutchess County. Registration is required for both the meeting and participating in the postcards to space project. Young Author Book Launch Party

Friday, November 10, 5:30 – 6:30 PM Main Library – please use the side door for entry Nine amazing young authors from our community worked hard this summer writing and illustrating a story of their own. Now, hardback copies of their books have arrived and it is time to celebrate! We invite the public to join us as we play games, snack, and preview these awesome works by elementary aged students ages 6-11. Drop in to join the fun and see the hard work these kids put in.   No registration required, drop ins welcome. All ages welcome.

Haunted Library Saturday, October 28 11:00 – 3:00 PM All ages and a caregiver Stop by the library during your trick or treat adventures around town for a library full of gentle fun for kids and families. Explore our spooky decorations, play some games, create a Halloween craft or two, and trick or treat at the circulation desk. Plus, our friend Lola the library owl will make an appearance to hand out treats. This passive event will take place all throughout the main library and drop-ins are welcome! No registration is required, just stop in for a fang-tastic good time.
