The Wonderful World of Bats!

Wednesday, 10/9, from 11:00-12:00 pm Bat educator Jerry Schneider will introduce us to the exotic world of bats and echolocation. Children will create unique bat t-shirts, using a combination of fabric dye sprays, plants, and cut outs. Children may purchase white t-shirts for $4.00, or bring their own. An Afternoon with Actor / Director Roger Hendricks Simon at the Akin Free Library

Saturday, October 12 2:00-3:00 pm Roger Hendricks Simon, who most recently appeared in the film Love in Kilnerry, will discuss and read Sarah Levine Simon’s second novel, the murder mystery, Locked Out. We’ll also be viewing Roger Hendricks Simon’s award-winning documentary film The Boys of Late Summer. Following the presentation, copies of Locked Out will be available for sale. She has devoted countless hours to investigating the effects of tonal vibrations on the human body and has personally studied with Alexandre Tannous and John Beaulieu, two of the pioneer researchers in the field. Having practiced meditation for over two decades and conducted meditation and spiritual development groups for over six years, Cristina has combined these modalities into her own creation of an integrated and therapeutic “sound bath,” which, accompanied with guided meditation and relaxation techniques, she uses in private and group sessions. Writers Workshop Part 2: 10 Common Mistakes and How To Avoid Them

Presented by author/editor Marian Grudko Tuesday, September 24 7:00-8:00 pm What is the best way to deal with mistakes? Don’t make them in the first place! In Writers Workshop Part 2, Marian will present concrete examples of some of the worst writing mistakes, followed by clear directions on how not to have them spoil your own writing. You will learn to avoid the sometimes not-so-obvious problems that cause an editor to toss a submission even before getting to the “good part”! Examples will range from narrative pacing and dialogue to specific issues of grammar, word usage and punctuation. Give your otherwise excellent efforts a chance to shine: Edit yourself! Registration is now open for Fall 2019 Children’s Programs. Low cost, educational programs are available for children birth-fourth grade. Fall will run nine weeks from September 23-November 23, with special December programs to follow, including Santa’s visit. Lottery registration will run September 9-16, with rolling registration to follow as space is available.
