Singing Books Concert : Lydia Adams Davis

Saturday 12/15, 4:00-5:00 pm – at the Holmes Whaley Lake Civic Association (239 Route 292, Holmes, New York, 12531) Free for all ages! Caregiver required to attend with children under 10. Musician and puppeteer Lydia Adams Davis will perform selections of her own music as well as sing-along favorites during this live, interactive concert for all ages. Davis’ performances have been praised by The New York Times, “Best of the Hudson Valley”, and more. Event will be proceeded by a Songwriting class, taught by Lydia, for grades K-4. It’s PARTY TIME! The Beautiful Elephant

Saturday, November 3, 2018, 5:30 pm-6:15 pm– Main Library It’s time to party! Celebrate the release of a new local children’s book with us! Stop in for light refreshments, children’s activities, and the first ever library reading of “The Beautiful Elephant!” This wonderful story highlights the importance of loving yourself, and self care; great messages for children and caregivers alike. Local author/illustrator team Jennifer Lohrfink Morfea and Erik Draw will be in the library to read the story aloud and demonstrate how they create the words and pictures together. We will have crafts, a raffle for prizes, and even snacks–all free! Families with children of all ages are welcome, but the book will be of most interest to children ages 6 and up. An adult must remain in the library with children under ten at all times.

NEW LOCATION: Glow-in-the-dark slime!

Our glow-in-the-dark slime program scheduled for 10/27/18, from 2:00-3:00 pm has been moved from it’s original location! Now, we will be making slime at Pawling’s Lakeside Park Recreation Center in the Green Parlor as part of the Center’s Trick or Treat Halloween event. Fall Children’s Programs Registration OPEN

Registration is now open for Fall 2018 Children’s Programs. Programs are available for children birth-fourth grade. Fall will run eight weeks from September 24-November 17, with special December programs to follow. Lottery registration will run September 12-17, with rolling registration to follow as space is available.  Ms. Neena and Ms. Kate are excited for what’s in store and hope you will join them in the library! 8/26, 1:00-3:00 pm, Main Library and Courtyard — Ms. Carla, Ms. Kate, and Ms. Neena All ages welcome. Free activities for children and teens. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver. Celebrate the end-of-summer, programs, AND the Library’s birthday with us! Teen volunteers have worked hard all summer to put together some rockin’ activities. Get the superstar look at our hair chalking and temporary tattoo stations, or explore our cardboard maze. Join in as we sing “Happy Birthday” and eat some cake! The event will conclude with our annual prize raffle. Up for grabs this year: a Kindle Fire 7, the chance to pie Ms. Neena in the face, and back-to-school baskets.

The upcoming Lydia Adams Davis Family Concert and the Songwriting class scheduled for Wednesday, July 25th, at the Holmes Whaley Lake Civic Association are cancelled. Instead, we will be rescheduling the events for later in the summer. We look forward to working with Ms. Davis later in the summer. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes interested attendees. The Summer Reading Program for Children and Teens Starts Now!

Reading consistently each week during the summer can be enough to stop a child’s reading ability from weakening. No matter your age, reading three or more days a week is ideal. This summer, you can track your reading with the Pawling Library’s Summer Reading Program! To get started, come into the library and pick up a Summer Reading Program Booklet. Our booklets track reading week by week, giving you the freedom to set unique reading goals for your family. If you are away this summer, do not worry! You can track your reading using the Reader Zone app for your Android, Apple, or Kindle device. You can also use Reader Zone on your desktop. Create an account and use the access code pawling-free. Throughout the summer when you participate in our Summer Reading Program, you can receive weekly prizes including forever books, science and craft kits, and more. Children’s Summer 2018 Programs Registration Available

Summer is here, and there’s tons of exciting programs happening for children in the library! From Lydia Adams Davis’ family concert to our Core Literacy Camps, summer programs abound! Registration forms are available now! You can find them here. You can also stop by and pick up a form from the circulation desk or register online through our online portal.  A general guide to our programs can be found here. Registration for our summer session programs runs from Wednesday, June 13th to Monday, July 2nd. Registration is required for all events. The  registration will operate using a lottery system, as in previous years. Come drop off your form at any point during the library’s regular hours at the library’s circulation desk, pick a lottery number, and get ready for summer learning. If you register online, the computer will assign your number for you. Please plan to fill out one form per family. Teen Volunteers and LEAD Interns Needed

Calling all teens 11-18 years old! Searching for volunteer opportunities for the summer and/or interested in working with children? We need you! You are invited to apply to our summer internship program. Interns help out during the summer to make sure that all children who participate in our summer literacy programs have a wonderful and learning-filled experience. To qualify, interns must submit a volunteer application and attend a program orientation in the end of June. Welcome in Spring with New Children’s Programs!

Registration for Spring 2018 Children’s Programs has begun! Children from birth to grade four and their families are welcome to join Ms. Neena and Ms. Kate to learn, play, and grow together. Programs are free for all families. Program registration is by lottery from March 26-April 2. If you miss this window, don’t worry! You can still sign up for programs as space is available.  Families can register online here or in person at the circulation desk. You can also print our physical registration forms and return them in person or by email (children@pawlinglibrary.org). In preparation for registration, please note that the library will be closed on April 1st, in observance of Easter Sunday.
