The Pawling Library’s Crazy 8’s Math Club battled for the gold this week in our Toilet Paper Olympics! We measured, counted, added, multiplied and estimated our way to feats of major proportion!

The banner welcomes us to…
-
-
The Toilet Paper Olympics!
-
-
We each got one square of toilet paper.
-
-
We used our tape measurers to check the size.
-
-
Each square was 4 inches.
-
-
Ms. Karen helped us figure out that there were 3 squares in a foot.
-
-
Our first event…the standing long jump!
-
-
We jumped….
-
-
and jumped…
-
-
and jumped!
-
-
Then we counted the number of toilet paper squares in each jump.
-
-
Our trusty helpers recorded our jumps.
-
-
Then we figured out how many feet we jumped.
-
-
Our jumps ranged from 4 feet 4 inches to 6 feet!
-
-
Next event…the toilet paper shot put!
-
-
This time we threw…
-
-
…and threw…
-
-
…and threw some more.
-
-
Then we counted & found out our longest throw was 19 feet!
-
-
Our last event was the toilet paper relay!
-
-
Each team rolled out an entire roll of toilet paper!
-
-
This took a lot of rolling,
-
-
and rolling,
-
-
and rolling,
-
-
and rolling!
-
-
We did the math to figure out how much toilet paper was on each roll.
-
-
60 toilet paper squares long times 8 rows.
-
-
480 squares x 4 inches = 1,920 inches. 160 feet!
-
-
Just for fun, we ended with a Mummy Relay!
-
-
Our mummies prepare to get wrapped.
-
-
Wrapping a mummy takes teamwork,
-
-
time,
-
-
patience
-
-
and persistance!
-
-
It helps to keep a good sense of humor!
-
-
Our mummies are looking good!
-
-
We did it!
-
-
Wow a Toilet Paper Olympics makes an olympic sized mess!
-
-
Good thing our olympians are great helpers!
Who knew there was so much math in a roll of toilet paper!
