At this workshop, we will listen to and examine the poetry of T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost, Marianne Moore and Langston Hughes. You will then be invited to read a poem of your own – and see how the grand shift in style of the earlier time still echoes in our work today. About our presenter: Marian Grudko is the author of Lucinda Snowdrop and co-author of Claudine: A Fairy Tale for Exceptional Grownups, with T.A. Young. She is also a composer and storyteller, and her work can be seen on her new and evolving YouTube channel and at soundcloud.com.

About our presenter: Maya Gottfried is the author of three children’s books, including Good Dog and Our Farm: By the Animals of Farm Sanctuary (both published by Knopf), as well as the adult nonfiction lifestyle guide Vegan Love. Her essays have appeared in media outlets including Oprah Daily,  The Washington Post, and Stat (Boston Globe Media).

These behaviors are a form of communication, and are essential to understanding the needs of the person with dementia. This program will help attendees identify common triggers for behaviors associated with dementia and learn strategies for addressing common dementia-related behaviors. Centennial Jazz Concert

The Pawling Library is hosting a free jazz concert on the Village Green on Saturday May 22nd, 1-3 PM. Why is the Pawling Library kicking off its year-long centennial celebration with a New Orleans Jazz band? Because in 1921, when the library received its Charter from the New York State Board of Education, what was known then as Dixieland Jazz, was all the rage all over the country! In the early twentieth century, the Great Migration of talented Black and Creole musicians who left New Orleans to seek a better life in the north, brought this vibrant musical genre to Chicago, Philadelphia and New York.
