Homeschool Space: Elementary Third Thursday of the Month (04/18, 05/16, & 6/20), 1:00-2:00 PM – Neena, Library Annex Age range: Homeschoolers ages 5-10, or those homeschooling in Kindergarten – 4th grade. Each month, homeschoolers come together to work on a fun, engaging project with friends and other homeschoolers in our region. The theme for April’s meeting is local birds. Kids will learn about birds local to our region through play. To close the program, kids will make bird inspired window clings to help keeps safe from crashing into windows. Registration is required. Please register for each month you wish to attend independently.

Each month, homeschoolers come together to work on a fun, engaging project with friends and other homeschoolers in our region. The theme for June’s meeting is storytelling using robotics. In small groups, kids will work together to use our indi robots and ozobot in order to retell favorite fairy tales. After our regular hour of programming, we invite program participants to join us for a casual homeschool moving up ceremony with their peers. As the “official” school year comes to a close, we will celebrate all that kids have learned and present each one with an unofficial certificate of achievement! Snacks and good vibes will be included. Registration is required. Please register for each month you wish to attend independently.

Kids will learn about lift and work together in groups to build an air hockey “table.” We will conclude with free play using the materials they built. Registration is required. Leap Day Homeschool Glow Party Thursday, 02/29, 1:00-2:00 PM – Neena, Library Annex Age range: Homeschoolers ages 5-12, or those homeschooling in grades K-6 It’s a bonus day! Join us for a celebration featuring glow-sticks, glow paint, music, and even special glowing juice we’ll make using science. Registration is required.

We’ll learn about how zoos deal with the smelliest, grossest parts of animal care and create fake animal droppings to trick family and friends with. Whether our creations come out looking realistic looking or like cute, rainbow poop emojis, kids will enjoy learning while creating. Registration is required. The theme for November’s meeting is Emergency Preparedness for kids and gratitude cards, featuring the American Red Cross curriculum.   Registration is required. Homeschool Space: Postcards to Space project

Homeschool Space: Postcards to Space Monday, November 13, 2023 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM Library Annex Age range: Homeschoolers in grades K-8 and their families Participate in the Postcards to Space art project before we meet Astronaut Nicole Stott on November 16. We will talk about the project, which is run by the Space for Art Foundation with groups of youth across the globe,  and each postcard’s journey to space. Then, kids will work on their own to design their own postcard. Postcards will be collected and presented to Astronaut Nicole Stott during her Homeschool event on November 16 and sent to space on a Blue Origin Space ship. After their journey, the postcards will be returned to participants as a keepsake. Registration is required. Can’t make it to our creation hour? Literacy Heroes: Kids meet an Astronaut 

Literacy Heroes: Kids Meet an Astronaut Thursday, November 16, 2023, 12:15 PM – 1:00 PM Lathrop Building Auditorium, Town of Pawling Recreation 2 Lakeside Drive, Pawling, NY 12564 Age range: Homeschoolers in grades K-8 and their families The Pawling Library, Pawling Recreation, Dutchess County, and Pawling Central School District are proud to provide area homeschoolers with the opportunity to meet and learn about veteran NASA astronaut Nicole Stott. This event will include a 10-15 minute presentation, including video of Nicole on a spacewalk, an opportunity for youth questions, and the presentation of all local homeschoolers’ Postcards to Space, pre-created postcards students have drawn and written that will be sent to space and returned to the homeschoolers after their journey. This program is paid for in part by Dutchess County. Registration is required for both the meeting and participating in the postcards to space project. We’ll learn about how they work, design our own, and even create snow globe thaumatropes as a science connection. Registration is required.
