Volunteering and Leadership Interns

Youth Volunteering

Become a Book Buddy!

For ages 11- 20

We are currently accepting volunteer applications for two programs working with children at the library. Teens and tweens ages 11-18 can apply to become reading buddies to our community’s younger, developing readers. Volunteers will be paired with an elementary aged student, whom they will read to and also assist in practicing their own reading skills.

Schedule,: Virtually over Zoom, Mondays, 7/12-8/21, 2:20 – 3:00 PM

Applicants need strong reading skills and to be available for at least three of the six dates of the program. A parent or guardian’s permission is needed to complete the application. The application is open now. To apply, fill out our application.

Questions can be directed to Children’s Program Coordinator, Neena McBaer at children@pawlinglibrary.org or 845-855-3444.

Reading as Service!

For all ages!

This summer, our library is aiming to buy a brand new store front play area for our children’s space. The play area will be an educational and fun space for kids ages 2-6 in our community. The only problem…we can’t buy it with money. Instead, with the help of our community, we need to log 20,000 minutes read in order to buy our play area. Help our

community earn this awesome new play space for our youngest children by keeping track of the time you spend reading graphic novels, books, magazines, or even listen to audiobooks this summer. If we earn our goal, anyone who logged their reading service will have their name featured on a plaque on the play area, acknowledging their awesome work. Additional personal prizes are also up for grabs.

We need your help to make this new play space a reality! Starting June 21, paper trackers will be available at the front desk to log your reading time on. You can also track online with our READsquared website tracker.

Questions can be directed to Children’s Program Coordinator, Neena McBaer at children@pawlinglibrary.org or 845-855-3444.

Project Do Something

Upcoming meeting dates: Mondays, 6:00-8:00 (Contact Phil for exceptions, teen@pawlinglibrary.com)

Project Do Something is a community service organization that meets throughout the year to work on small but impact-full projects to better our community.

No registration is required. Feel free to bring yourself and your friends (ages 10 and up). Project Do Something is a great opportunity to hang out and have fun while completing community service.

Library Legions

Ages 12 and up. You make your hours!

Library Legions is a great way to build your resume or complete mandatory community service hours. Library Legions is a community service program in which teens make their own hours (up to two hours per week) and help library staff with a variety of tasks around the library, including helping find books, shelving books, organizing sections of the library, assisting in various projects, and keeping the library looking its best!

Anyone interested in more information should contact Phil at teen@pawlinglibrary.org. Signing up requires an application and a training day with Phil. You can download the application here: Library Legions Volunteer Application
