Let’s get ready for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse! Pawling will see nearly a total solar eclipse on the afternoon of Monday, April 8.

Solar Eclipse Safe Viewing Kits:
Kits are sold out! 500 glasses distributed to Pawling and Holmes residents in less than one week. Thank you for your interest
. Starting March 22, patrons can request a packet of solar eclipse viewing glasses and eclipse information to help safely view this rare phenomenon online or in person. All requested glasses will need to be picked up from the library during regular operating hours.

The library will call or email you when your order is ready for pickup. Limit: Five pairs of glasses per family. Orders are first come, first served.

Glasses are one size fits all. Young children may be too small to use these glasses and safely view the eclipse.

 

Family Science: Solar Eclipses

Join Library Children’s Program Coordinator Neena McBaer for an exploration of solar eclipses in advance of the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. This program will include a short presentation about solar eclipses, highlighting what to expect when safely viewing a solar eclipse and explaining this amazing, rare phenomenon. After, youth and families will be invited to participate in several hands-on activities, including a virtual eclipse simulator, estimation games, and making a pinhole camera.

Participants will also receive up to five free pairs of solar eclipse viewing glasses for their family.

Monday, April 8, Pawling will be in the path of a near total solar eclipse. Celebrate this amazing experience with the library. Drop in to pick up free solar eclipse viewing glasses, eclipse viewing information, learn about our library telescope, and enjoy snacks. Sign up to receive a reminder before the event or drop in on the day of the eclipse.
