Laurie Berkner Valentine’s Concert

Sunday, 2/13, 12:00 PM & 5:00 PM All ages welcome, best for families with children six and under Laurie Berkner, Hudson Valley resident and mega-star of the children’s music scene is hosting an interactive Virtual Concert this Valentine’s Day. She’s been on Nickelodeon, toured the US, and written hits like “We are the Dinosaurs” and “I’m Gonna Catch You.” To help support at-home learning this winter, the Pawling Free Library will be providing a limited number of virtual concert tickets to local families. To reserve a ticket, click here.  You will need an internet connected device to stream the concert remotely. Only one ticket per family; one ticket includes access to both concert times for one device and should be enough for the whole family. Make Gel Stars

This October, we’re hosting some exciting after school programming for youth ages 6-10! Mad Science: Gel Creators (Ages 6-10 years) Thursday, 10/28, 4:00-5:00 PM – Digital/Kit Learn about gels & how they are made as we do science together over Zoom. Harden liquids like magic and show off your creations to other kids. Supplies and instructions will be provided, though caregiver supervision is recommended, especially for developing readers. Meet Princess Belle!

The final event in the Mid-Hudson Library System Storytime Series this year will be our visit with Princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Meet the princess virtually on Thursday, 10/14, at 4:30 PM or watch on-demand, anytime. Princess Belle will read a story, sing songs, and talk about life in the castle. Meet a Superhero!

Avengers, assemble! Captain Marvel will be stopping by our Facebook Live storytime group today, Thursday, 8/12/21 at 4:30 PM EST to share stories about her adventures and chat with families about her awesome superhero life! Beat the heat inside as Captain Marvel responds to children’s questions and comments by name! Can’t make the live show? A recording will be available in the storytime group shortly after the airing. This program is part of our Mid-Hudson Library System Princess and Superhero storytime series. The next special guests will be Supergirl on September 9th and Belle from Beauty and the Beast on October 14. Stephanie Rogers is the author of The Horse I Belong To: How a Misused and Almost Forgotten Grade Mare Showed Me the Way. Summer Reading Update: Almost at Community Goal!

The Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge is well underway. In fact, we have almost met our community goal!  With a group total of 19,708 minutes, we need just a little more help to earn our new kid’s area play set. Here are the team standings: Image is of three cats looking at a fishbowl. The colors on their tails show how much progress each team has made logging reading time. From left to right the cats are adults, kids, and teens. First Place: Kids (12, 214 minutes) Second Place: Adults (6,975 minutes) Third Place: Teens (519 minutes) Great things happen when we work together! When we hit 20,000, we will earn our community prize, plus new raffle prizes will be added to the pot for you to win, like gift cards to McKinney and Doyle. Upcoming Youth Volunteer Opportunities

This summer, get involved in our community! Below are library volunteering opportunities for kids and teens. Included: Book Buddy Volunteers needed, Reading as service!, Garden Volunteering, and Project Do Something   Become a Book Buddy! For ages 11- 20 We are currently accepting volunteer applications for our Book Buddy program. Teens and tweens ages 11-18 can apply to become reading buddies to our community’s younger, developing readers. Volunteers will be paired with an elementary aged student, whom they will assist in practicing their reading skills, as well as read aloud to. Schedule: Virtually over Zoom, Mondays, 7/12-8/21, 2:20 – 3:00 PM Applicants need strong reading skills and to be available for at least three of the six dates of the program. A parent or guardian’s permission is needed to complete the application. The application is open now. Calling all Star Wars fans! The force has guided Princess Leia to our library for a special digital program. Join us on Facebook Live on May 13, 4:30 PM as Princess Leia answers questions, shares tales from her adventures in space, and more.
