We apologize for any inconvenience.   Mario Kart Blind Driving Contest Friday, 01/12, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM – Neena, Library Annex Age range: Grades 3-6 The library will pull out our Nintendo Switch for this fun event, where teams will work together to get their vehicle to the finish line while facing challenges like being blindfolded, relay driving, and more. Those new to Mario Kart and those with experience welcome. .

Fall Youth Programs – Registration Now Open!

Our Fall programs are just around the corner! Registration for child and teen programs for our fall cycle, Sept. 24 – Nov. 19 starts today, Monday, 9/12! Register anytime after this date. Children’s Programs: For more information on our programs for children birth – grade 4, visit our Current Children’s Programs Page. Register online from this portal, our calendar, or by contacting Children’s Program Coordinator Neena McBaer at children@pawlinglibrary.org or 845-855-3444. Registration is preferred for all programs in the children’s department. Drop-ins will be accommodated whenever possible, though drop-in participation is not guaranteed. Teen/Tween Programs: Visit our Teen Programs page for information on this fall’s series of events for youth ages 10-18. Register from our calendar or through the teen programs page. Are your tickets entered for the summer reading raffle?

REMINDER: Our first raffle in our Summer Reading Challenge will be 7/15! If you’ve been logging your reading online or with a paper log, you’ve been earning raffle tickets to win prizes in our raffles! But have you stopped by the library to fill them out and pick up your other prizes? Want a chance to win? Kids and teens who have leveled up in the Summer Reading Challenge will need to stop by the library before 7/15 to pick up prizes and enter their raffle tickets or contact program coordinator Neena to redeem their tickets. Adult participants do not need to stop by; their tickets are automatically entered for them! For the 7/15 raffle, you could win tickets to games from awesome area teams like the Hudson Valley Renegades, New York Red Bulls, and Danbury Westerners. Got questions? Stephanie Rogers is the author of The Horse I Belong To: How a Misused and Almost Forgotten Grade Mare Showed Me the Way. Thank you Summer Readers!

WOW! Thank you to our Tails and Tales Summer Readers who read over 33,000 minutes (550 hours) this summer to earn our library a new marketplace learning center!   Plus, the Kid’s Team Won the Reading Challenge! The marketplace is now available for families to use in our children’s area. It is designed to help our preschool and toddler patrons learn through play and will feature rotating themes of play such as grocery store, tools and repair, and a flower shop. The repair shop is open now, with alphabet locks, gears, and a pint-sized tool box. Stop by and check it out! To wrap up the program: At the close of our six week Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge, the kid’s team won the Summer Reading Crown for the second summer in a row! Congrats to everyone on the kid’s team who each earned an extra raffle ticket for our big prize raffle and bragging rights as the reading champions!

Summer Reading Update: Almost at Community Goal!

The Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge is well underway. In fact, we have almost met our community goal!  With a group total of 19,708 minutes, we need just a little more help to earn our new kid’s area play set. Here are the team standings: Image is of three cats looking at a fishbowl. The colors on their tails show how much progress each team has made logging reading time. From left to right the cats are adults, kids, and teens. First Place: Kids (12, 214 minutes) Second Place: Adults (6,975 minutes) Third Place: Teens (519 minutes) Great things happen when we work together! When we hit 20,000, we will earn our community prize, plus new raffle prizes will be added to the pot for you to win, like gift cards to McKinney and Doyle. Upcoming Youth Volunteer Opportunities

This summer, get involved in our community! Below are library volunteering opportunities for kids and teens. Included: Book Buddy Volunteers needed, Reading as service!, Garden Volunteering, and Project Do Something   Become a Book Buddy! For ages 11- 20 We are currently accepting volunteer applications for our Book Buddy program. Teens and tweens ages 11-18 can apply to become reading buddies to our community’s younger, developing readers. Volunteers will be paired with an elementary aged student, whom they will assist in practicing their reading skills, as well as read aloud to. Schedule: Virtually over Zoom, Mondays, 7/12-8/21, 2:20 – 3:00 PM Applicants need strong reading skills and to be available for at least three of the six dates of the program. A parent or guardian’s permission is needed to complete the application. The application is open now.
