Meet Pete the Cat All ages and a caregiver Saturday, 06/01, 4:30-5:15 pm *Event held at Lakeside Park as part of Pawling Community Day* 2 Lakeside Dr. Pawling, NY 12564 In partnership with Pawling Recreation Hey creative cats! Join us for a story time at the park featuring a visit from Pete the Cat. This cool blue kitty from author/illustrator team James and Kimberly Dean will give out stickers, high fives, and take pictures with fans. Bring a blanket to sit on as we read a Pete the cat story and enjoy a related craft. Pawling Community Day is a drop-in event, made possible by Pawling Recreation. Registration is not required. RSVP below for a reminder a few days before the event!    

Young Author Book Launch Party

Friday, November 10, 5:30 – 6:30 PM Main Library – please use the side door for entry Nine amazing young authors from our community worked hard this summer writing and illustrating a story of their own. Now, hardback copies of their books have arrived and it is time to celebrate! We invite the public to join us as we play games, snack, and preview these awesome works by elementary aged students ages 6-11. Drop in to join the fun and see the hard work these kids put in.   No registration required, drop ins welcome. All ages welcome.

Haunted Library Saturday, October 28 11:00 – 3:00 PM All ages and a caregiver Stop by the library during your trick or treat adventures around town for a library full of gentle fun for kids and families. Explore our spooky decorations, play some games, create a Halloween craft or two, and trick or treat at the circulation desk. Plus, our friend Lola the library owl will make an appearance to hand out treats. This passive event will take place all throughout the main library and drop-ins are welcome! No registration is required, just stop in for a fang-tastic good time.

Join us, free on Saturday, November 5, 1:30 – 2:15 PM at Lakeside Auditorium for a 45 minute show full of dancing, balloons, and family-friendly music. Join us, free on Saturday, September 24, 1:30 – 2:15 PM at Lakeside Park for a 45 minute show by Brady and the band during the Pawling Rotary Fall Festival. Bring your own seating for this fall edition of music by the lake, partially sponsored by the library, Pawling Rotary, Dutchess County and Pawling Recreation. Drop-ins welcome. Kid’s Spring Programs Schedule Out Now

Have you heard? We’re back in person at the library! The full schedule of Spring Children’s programs for children ten and under is now available. Plus, we’re offering a series of parent and caregiver support programs too! We’re continuing to offer our popular activity kit programs, as well as occasional digital events. However, most of our events will now be held in person, both outside and indoors.   To view all our Spring offerings and to register online, click here to visit our Spring Programs Guide. The program cycle will run April 7 – June 3, with a few special events before and after this period. Registration is rolling, as space is available.

Symphony Storytime

Silly and fun performance featuring musicians from The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra. Designed for grades K-3 and their families. Got an interested youth slightly older or younger? Saturday, April 2, from 4:30 – 5:30 PM – Pawling Library Register here The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra proudly presents… Symphony Storytime is an entertaining and educational family program featuring musicians from The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra. This interactive, 50 minute program is designed for children in grades K-3 accompanied by an adult. The program pairs the reading of an award-winning picture book with music inspired by the story and performed by the musicians. The music will include familiar tunes, classical riffs, witty musical improvisations and funny sound effects – moving the story along at a lively pace. Children will also participate in activities related to the book and presentations on instruments of the orchestra. Pre-registration is required. Summer Reading Update: Almost at Community Goal!

The Tails and Tales Summer Reading Challenge is well underway. In fact, we have almost met our community goal!  With a group total of 19,708 minutes, we need just a little more help to earn our new kid’s area play set. Here are the team standings: Image is of three cats looking at a fishbowl. The colors on their tails show how much progress each team has made logging reading time. From left to right the cats are adults, kids, and teens. First Place: Kids (12, 214 minutes) Second Place: Adults (6,975 minutes) Third Place: Teens (519 minutes) Great things happen when we work together! When we hit 20,000, we will earn our community prize, plus new raffle prizes will be added to the pot for you to win, like gift cards to McKinney and Doyle. The more you read, the more you earn, including free books to keep! Plus, the winning team will earn bragging rights and the Summer Reading Champions Crown. Spring Children’s Programs Registration Open

No more April-fooling around! The full schedule of Spring Children’s programs for children ten and under is now available! We’re continuing to offer our popular activity kit programs, as well as digital events on Zoom and Facebook Live. Starting in May, we’re also introducing our first outdoor, socially distanced programs for children under five and their caregivers! Fall Children’s Programs Registration starts 9/2  Programs run 9 weeks: 9/21-11/21 Children’s programs are back! And now that we’ve got a few seasons of virtual programming under our belt, we’re on a roll! Upcoming favorites include our Dogman Digital Escape Room, weekly Kindergarten readiness story hour, and our Grow a Reader Kits for babies and toddlers. Our schedule includes a variety of programs for children ages 0-10 years. We offer live Zoom programs, fully prepped activity kits you can use at home, and even some upcoming surprises! All our programming is free and education focused.
