Summer Reading Ideas for Elementary Readers

Summer is the perfect time to crack open a new book!

Lola the library owl and our team have put together a list of favorite reads for children, summer 2022. They are sorted based on average reading levels and interest levels for preschool – grades 5+. Check it out here for some great summer reads!

Lists like these aren’t the only way to find accessible reading material for any child’s ability level. Looking for more books at your child’s reading level?

For new readers, we offer leveled booklets and Easy Reader books in our ER section (in the picture book area). New readers can start with the level A booklets and work their way up! Plus, Easy Reader (ER) books feature accessible language, simple sentence structure, and visual clues that help developing readers grow. These books are great for students entering kindergarten – 2nd grade in Fall 2022.

Got a chapter book reader? There’s lots of chapter book options that are leveled too! Check out our leveled reading lists in English  and Spanish for suggested topics.

Did you know kids who log their time reading in our summer reading challenge can earn prizes, brag badges, and the chance to win tickets to area sports events? Find out more about the Oceans of Possibility Summer Reading Challenge here.

Our staff is also happy to help make reading suggestions anytime. Contact us online at children@pawlinglibrary.org or stop by the front desk for help finding a book or series that may fit your child’s interests and developing abilities.
