Meet a Mermaid Storytime (All ages and a caregiver) Saturday, 7/16, 1:30 – 2:30 PM PROGRAM HELD OFFSITE: Lakeside Park, 2 Lakeside Dr. Pawling, NY 12564 Stop by the Lakeside beach for our special mermaid meeting. Our mermaid friends will read, sing, and play with us, as well as provide opportunities for meet-and-greets. This program is part of our Literacy Heroes series and sponsored in part by Dutchess County and Pawling Recreation. The Literacy Heroes series aims to inspire youth to practice the keys to early literacy from a young age by providing opportunities for them to meet and interact with awesome characters and artists who love to practice these skills. Baseball Ticket Raffle: Summer Reading

Oceans of Possibility Summer Reading Baseball Raffle  (All ages, grown-ups included!) Start your summer reading early! Log your reading and collect raffle tickets before 7/15 for your chance to win tickets to Hudson Valley Renegades or Danbury Westerners Games for the whole family. We’ll pull winners for the baseball raffle on 7/15/2022! Two lucky participants will win a family four-pack of tickets to a Hudson Valley Renegades game. This prize includes tickets and team caps for any available home Renegades game in Wappingers Falls, NY.  This MiBL Yankee Affiliate team puts on family-friendly games at Dutchess Stadium, often including fireworks and kids’ competitions! 20 or more participants will win tickets family pack tickets to see the Danbury Westerners play at Rogers Park in Danbury. The Westerners were the NECBL Champions in 2021 and with the park so close to home, it’s an easy outing for the family. Participants do not have to be present to win. Dog Tales (Developing Reader Program)

For developing readers, especially grades 1-6. Wednesdays, 4:30 – 5:30 PM by 15 minute appointment – Charles Colman Gazebo This program is held offsite at the Gazebo on Charles Colman Avenue.  Meet our pal Jackie and her pooch, Harper the reading dog! This program provides a fun, relaxed space for kids to practice reading skills and get some puppy love at the same time. Harper and Jackie are Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause trained providers, ready to provide low-stress reading practice support. This program is a great fit for kids who love to read and those who don’t, as well as kids who just want a puppy cuddle. Registration preferred. Summer Reading Starts Today!

Oceans of Possibility Summer Reading Challenge (All ages, grown-ups included!) Program runs 6/20 – 8/20 The 2022 Summer Reading Challenge has something for everyone! Whether your family is motivated by helping our community, earning brag badges that show off kids’ reading accomplishments, or a love of ice cream and other rewards, like free books and toys, we’ve got a challenge for you. Participants simply record the time they spend reading (or being read to) on a paper reading log or on our website. For each 150 minutes read, kids will earn brag badges they can wear or attach to their backpack. There’s other incentives kids can earn along the way too, like free books, stickers, and raffle tickets for bigger prizes, like HV Renegades Baseball tickets or a Kindle Fire. When participants read 1,200 minutes or more over the summer, they’ll earn a certificate of achievement. On top of individual prizes, the reading logged in our summer reading challenge helps our community grow! If Pawling can log 20,000 minutes read this summer, we will earn...

Wizard of Oz Family Block Party

Wizard of Oz Family Block Party (All ages and a caregiver) Saturday, 8/28 12:30 – 3:00 PM – Lakeside Park The library is celebrating 100 years! Our end of summer party aims to connect back to the time of the library’s founding in 1921 through L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The world of Dorothy, Toto, and Oz will be at the heart of this year’s event, which will feature inflatables, music, and a Wizard of Oz themed costume contest. Additionally, families will be invited to “Dunk the Wicked Witch” and members of the library’s staff at a dunk tank and challenged to follow the yellow brick road in our games! No registration is required for this Centennial Committee sponsored event. Unvaccinated patrons over the age of two MUST wear a mask while attending in-person library events. Wednesdays, 10:00 am -12:00 pm, Main Library, Courtyard, and Annex – Ms. Carla Celebrity Readers and those notorious 3-5 graders who love to shine! Our Core Literacy Programs are designed to promote reading and a love for learning. Each week, students will have the chance to take part in stories, games,art, and projects based on our summer theme “Libraries Rock!” Each session includes time for a quick snack break, so families who are able should send a small snack and water bottle each week.   Interested in joining? Children’s Summer Programs Lottery Registration

Starting June 13th, visit http://www.pawlingfreelibrary.org/children/programs/ or stop by the library circulation desk to enter the lottery registration for summer children’s programs (birth to grade 5). Programs for all ages will be available this summer, including the return of our one-on-one literacy programs, and our summer reading challenge!
