Grades K-4 and families Activity Kit and Tutorial Available Week of 2/2 -Miss Neena Paper circuits create cards with small LEDs that light up. This kit includes all the materials your family will need to make a light up card that can be given as a Valentine’s gift, sent as a thank you, or kept! Weekly educational activities focus on the skills needed to become an expert spy, like forensic science, observation, mapping, and code breaking. Hands on games, puzzles, and more. Looking for ways to keep learning and play interesting as we say goodbye to 2020? Our New Year’s Cheer Kits are designed to bring your family a bit of cheer and activity for the holiday. Choose between our three kit options, each designed with the skills/interests of their intended audience in mind. Early Years Kit: Designed for ages 2-5 and family. Includes supplies for a firework themed craft, activity countdown chain featuring activities for each hour, and more. Elementary Kit: Designed for ages 6-10 and family. Includes supplies for a countdown creation, glow stick challenges, and more Combination Kit: If your family has children in both the 2-5 and 6-10 age ranges, we can include both in one kit. Kits must be picked up from the library during our regular operating hours. Please keep in mind holiday hours and COVID policies. Wednesday, December 9, 10:00 am – 10:30 am via Zoom Ages 2-5 – This special story time will feature favorite winter songs, games, and stories. Join Ms. Neena over Zoom in this winter story hour, featuring favorites from the season. This class combines music and movement with books and early literacy activities. Kit includes locally made gingerbread house for a fun at-home activity. The library and Sunflour bakery have partnered to take family bonding time to the next level. These gingerbread kits include a gingerbread house, plus everything you’ll need to put together and decorate your creation. Each kit comes with extension activities, like gingerbread MadLibs. Due to demand, we are currently limiting kits to one per family. Teens and tweens 10-18 can also join our discord server, where the group will chat while putting together their kits or other other activities together. Kits must be picked up from the library during our regular operating hours, and a staff member will notify you when your kit is ready for pickup. Families register for a 10 minute time block to share wish lists and chat with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Limit: ten minutes per family Santa and Mrs. Claus will be inside the library building, wearing their masks and registered families will be outdoors, also wearing masks and social distancing. All interaction will happen through a window. Our scheduling plan will allow families to safely participate one at a time. Important notes: Masks and social distancing will be heavily enforced and individuals who do not comply will not be permitted to participate. Participants two years and up must wear a mask. Time to show up for your favorite characters! Did you know that for the last two months, youth in our community have put together nominations for the next President of the Library Books? Well, now it’s time to vote for the winners! Help us pick which characters you think would make the best leader! Visit https://www.pawlingfreelibrary.org/election/ to vote, from October 26 – November 3. One winner will be chosen for the Children’s division (Ages 5-10) and one for the Teen division (Ages 11-18). Winners will be announced November 3. The president of the library is a leader, chosen by popular vote, who is in charge of all of the other book characters in the library. To win the President of the Library election, a character must be nominated by a teen or child. Each participant has written a platform for their selected character that describes the characters beliefs and what they would do as president. Anyone is eligible to vote.
