Our Core Literacy Programs are designed to promote reading and a love for learning. Pairs school-age readers with teen volunteers trained to assist in literacy assistance. All reading done in this program counts towards summer reading challenge! Saturday, 6/2, 10:30 am-12:00 pm -Ms. Neena, Annex Do you love to build? All are all invited to participate in our LEGO competition! Each participant will be given one hour to build with library LEGOs to the theme “Here’s the story,” either alone or as a team. Creations should be inspired by specific books, movies, or TV shows. Attendees will vote for their favorite creations across several age-related categories, including Preschool, Grades K-1, Grades 2-4, and Grades 5-Adult. Winners will be awarded LEGO Shop Gift Cards. Fridays, starting 4/20, 4:00-5:00 pm -Ms. Neena, Annex Back by popular demand, it’s the most fun you can ever have in the library! Join Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8s Club, where you’ll build stuff, run and jump, make music, make a mess…it’s a whole new kind of math club! All activities are designed by the experts at Bedtime Math to boost and support developing math skills. This program runs eight weeks, starting April 20th. Don’t think your child would enjoy a math club, but want them to boost their skills? Can’t get your child interested, though you think it would be helpful for them to participate? Our Do-It-Yourself Crafting Collaboration will teach children in grades K-2 to engineering incredible projects. Selected projects include no-sew monster pillows, upcycled t-shirt bags, and more. Coloring is more than being creative, it’s a very relaxing activity that has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety.
Each week we’ll be coloring a new mandala design, while also enjoying a good round of conversation.
You don’t have to have a degree in art to participate…just some paper and color pencils.

Teachers say that the skills that lead to the most student success in school are their social and emotional skills. Join us to help develop these skills, all while children play! This supervised hour of fun provides a large space for children to meet and play, either inside or out, depending on the weather. This program is designed to ease the transition to daycare, preschool, and especially kindergarten and is paid for in part by Dutchess County.

Poet Linda McCauley Freeman, author of the newly published book The Family Plot, will be sharing with us a selection of her poems during this interactive presentation.
About our presenter: Linda McCauley Freeman is the author of the full-length poetry collection The Family Plot (Backroom Window Press, 2022) and has been widely published in international journals, including in a Chinese translation. She was nominated for a Pushcart Prize 2022. Recently she appeared in Delta Poetry Review, Poet Magazine, Amsterdam Quarterly, and won Grand Prize in StoriArts’Maya Angelou poetry contest. She received a grant from Arts Mid-Hudson and was selected for Poets Respond to Art 2020, 2021 and 2022 shows. She was a three-time winner in the Talespinners Short Story contest judged by Michael Korda. She has an MFA from Bennington College and is the former poet-in-residence of the Putnam Arts Council.
