Book Buddies (Grades 1+) Mondays, 2:30 – 3:00 PM – Zoom Kids work one-on-one with a teen mentor on developing reading skills. Teens will provide support when kids struggle and read or chat with them when they need a break. This is a six-week program. You must commit to 4 out of 6 weeks to join. Kids and families, register here. Got a tween/teen at home who is a strong reader? Youth 11 and older can volunteer as mentors in our Book Buddy program and earn community service hours! Dog Tales * (Grades 1+) Biweekly Wednesdays (7/7, 7/21, 8/4, & 8/18) by 15 minute appointment – OUTDOOR We’ve got a new furry friend at the library! Harper is a certified therapy dog that loves to hear stories and is trained to work with children. Developing readers are invited to sign up for 15 minute sessions to practice their reading aloud, all while making a new animal friend. Register here. Please ONLY register for dates you plan to attend, as spaces are limited. Appointments are for one child at a time. For siblings, please make additional appointments. Unvaccinated patrons over the age of two MUST wear a mask while attending in-person library events. This means children ages 3- 12 must be masked at events, even outdoors. This program is a series of 6 take home kits; pre-prepped learning activities for children entering grades Kindergarten – 5th grade in Fall 2022 to do at home with a caregiver. To participate, a caregiver must pick each kit up from the library once they are available. Families can register for all the weeks or individual weeks. Take science learning to a new level with these kits made by expert science teachers at Steve Spangler Science! Each week, pick up a new kit including everything you need to turn your home into a science lab. Some experiments may be messy. Caregiver oversight is recommended.

Design a puppet production from start to finish. Kids will design their own puppet theater and puppets to tell a story their own way.
On Friday mornings, toddlers rule the library! This six week program includes songs, stories, and games plus a play-based learning stations, like art or parachute play. The program or portions thereof may be held outside in our courtyard to utilize our outdoor play equipment as weather allows but fully move indoors if conditions are poor. Please dress for the weather, with sunscreen and bring water.
Mad Science of the Mid-Hudson will present this hands-on workshop for pre-teens & teens in grade 5 & up. Students will devise and test techniques to handle the aftermath of an oil spill, in an oil spill simulation, and discuss how to clean up and prevent the pollution that plagues our oceans.
