Book Buddies

Book Buddies (Grades 1+) Mondays, 2:30 – 3:00 PM – Zoom Kids work one-on-one with a teen mentor on developing reading skills. Teens will provide support when kids struggle and read or chat with them when they need a break. This is a six-week program. You must commit to 4 out of 6 weeks to join. Kids and families, register here. Got a tween/teen at home who is a strong reader? Youth 11 and older can volunteer as mentors in our Book Buddy program and earn community service hours! Dog Tales * (Grades 1+) Biweekly Wednesdays (7/7, 7/21, 8/4, & 8/18) by 15 minute appointment – OUTDOOR We’ve got a new furry friend at the library! Harper is a certified therapy dog that loves to hear stories and is trained to work with children. Developing readers are invited to sign up for 15 minute sessions to practice their reading aloud, all while making a new animal friend. Register here. Please ONLY register for dates you plan to attend, as spaces are limited. Appointments are for one child at a time. For siblings, please make additional appointments. Unvaccinated patrons over the age of two MUST wear a mask while attending in-person library events. Dog Tales: Read with a Therapy Dog (Grades 1+)

15 minute sessions BY APPOINTMENT Alternating Tuesdays (1/14, 1/28, 2/11, 2/25, 3/10) 4:15-5:15 pm – Phil and Suzanne Registered therapy dogs Marcie and Alexander love stories, cuddles, and making new friends! Children can sign up for a 15 minute session with these pups, and read to them in a low-stress environment. Perfect for emerging and struggling readers! Interested in joining? Please pay special attention to the time you are registered for.  Tuesdays, 2:30-3:00 pm OR 3:15-3:45 pm – Ms. Carla Build early literacy and school readiness skills in this engaged reading program. Preschoolers read and chat with elementary aged buddies, who model great reading. These elementary readers get to practice reading to someone who won’t notice their mistakes and really loves stories. Everyone benefits when kids read together!   Registration for summer programs starts June 10th. Visit our registration portal online or stop by the circulation desk for more information.
