All Ages Buddy Book Club

This program is for children entering grades 1-5 in fall 2023 and volunteers 11 and up that enjoy working with children. Caregivers are not required, but welcome to participate. 

Learning to read can be tricky, but having a buddy to read with can make it more fun! This program focuses on helping children develop their reading skills, make literacy connections, and learn to love reading! Books and teambuilding come together to make one great time. Kids and volunteers will team up to complete a weekly reading and themed challenge in this literacy focused hour. Volunteers develop mentoring skills and practice time management and responsibility while earning community service hours, and kids practice reading with their buddy in a low-stress environment. The program ends with a team game or activity that makes literacy connections and makes reading fun!

Interested in volunteering with us? All volunteers will be trained in basic literacy intervention skills to better assist their buddy. To find out about being a volunteer, contact us at children@pawlinglibrary.org or teen@pawlinglibrary.org
