What do Punxsutawney Phil and Hieronymus Hedgehog have in common? Well, mostly they have very fine names, and they share a special day. Groundhog Day and National Hedgehog Day are both celebrated on February 2nd.

If you haven’t heard of Hieronymus Hedgehog, he’s the Pawling Library’s officially unofficial mascot. You can see him, often wearing a beret, at the circulation desk. And his image, along with Lola the owl, our library’s true mascot, are posted throughout the library.

In April, for Earth Day, we’ll be sculpting Hieronymus Hedgehog. Your sculptures will go on display at our library, celebrating not only Hieronymus Hedgehog but all the many little and large creatures that make our amazing earth so amazing.

Please join the fun!

This program is for kids and their parents.

    Celebrate Earth Day with us!

We’ll have an assortment of seeds, potted plants, and rooted cuttings for you to trade, as well as gardening and nature books for sale.

If there are seeds & plants you like but don’t have anything to trade, please just make a small donation to our library. Thank you.

Master Gardener Michelle Lam will be on hand to answer your gardening questions.

Spring-themed cookies, provided by our friends and neighbors at Sunflour Bakery, will be available for purchase while you trade & shop.

In addition, we will have a bushel of gratitude leaves for you to choose from. Please take one leaf and write on it what you’re grateful for. The gratitude leaves were created by children, and will be used to decorate the trees in front of our library. The Pawling Library is grateful to have such wonderful patrons!

We are grateful to the Pawling Garden Club for partnering with our library to make this event possible.
