Kirtan is the repetitive chanting of the same sounds. It has a hypnotic effect on the mind, thus releasing it from stress and transferring it into a state of higher consciousness and concentration. This makes us more aware of everything around us, leading to development of powerful intuitive abilities over time. We bring ourselves to higher frequencies and bring ourselves out of negativity.

Come sing till your heart dances with joy!

Let the musical vibrations lead you to a place of peace.

Chanting in Sanskrit has a hypnotic effect on the mind.

It is relaxing and uplifting at the same time.

Let's share the healing, joyful power of chant.

Energize yourself at this musical meditation and find the divinity already within you.

Please join us for a beautiful, blissful evening of music.

Note: no experience is necessary.

About our presenter Jane Slotnick: As a special education teacher, I found myself exhausted by the end of the day. Wanting to give my students my best, I embarked on a spiritual journey to find inner peace.  I found the world of meditation and my spiritual journey began.  One day after mediation class I was invited to a Kirtan. Curious yet nervous since I couldn't even read music, I set off on a new journey.  Expecting to be an observer, I walked into the yoga center and quickly found a seat way in the back. As the music played and others began to sing I found myself quietly starting to sing along.  The magic of the melodies had carried me away to a place of peace. I was hooked after the first night. After attending many Kirtans, one summer I decided to treat myself to a harmonium and signed up for classes. I ventured out to yoga studios, wellness centers and retreat centers. Now with a passion to share my love for this sacred, healing, modality, I offer you to join me.

You have an idea for a new poem. Why not write it from someone else's perspective? Whether it's a historical figure or your neighbor down the road or even a bird - try to imagine what life is like for them. Then write your poem from their point of view. Bring your poem to the workshop, to share and discuss. Or just bring your ideas and enthusiasm and we'll learn together.

Each month, in a respectful and open environment, we’ll explore a new topic led by a different community leader.

At the start of the program, we’ll be watching a 15-minute TED TALKS video, entitled Why people believe they can't draw with Graham Shaw.

Following the viewing, we’ll open up a group discussion led by Courtney Puckett.

NOTE: Participants should have sheets of paper and a marker or pencil for this program.

Our wellness as individuals and as a community depends on continued sharing, support and conversation in times of celebration as well as in times of conflict.

Come Together and join us in fostering deeper conversations, listening to disparate experiences and points of view in the realm of challenging contexts. The opinions expressed by the video presenter, conversation facilitator, and program participants are welcomed for the purpose of fostering discussion and reflection, but are not intended to represent the views of the Pawling Free Library.

We understand that these conversations could be difficult to have, and believe that by coming together to find the willingness to listen and learn, we can aspire to create a stronger Pawling, where ALL community members feel safe, welcome and represented.

This program is being provided through a partnership with the Pawling Library and Pawling Yoga & Wellness. https://pawlingyogawellness.org
