Professor Tommy Zurhellen will read excerpts from his memoir The Low Road: Walking the Walk for Veterans. Following his reading will be a Q & A and book signing. In 2019 Tommy Zurhellen walked across America to raise awareness on veteran suicide and homelessness in our country. All proceeds from his memoir go directly to helping veterans in need through the VetZero project at Hudson River Housing.

About our presenter: Tommy Zurhellen is an Associate Professor of English at Marist College, and the author of the award-winning Messiah Trilogy of novels that reimagine the life of Jesus in modern-day North Dakota: Nazareth, North Dakota (2011), Apostle Islands (2012) and Armageddon, Texas (2014), all from Atticus Books. His short fiction and essays have appeared widely in literary magazines such as Carolina Quarterly, Quarterly West, Passages North, The MacGuffin, Appalachee Review, South Dakota Review, River Oak Review, Crab Creek Review, Iconoclast, Red Mountain Review, Coal City Review, and elsewhere. Tommy is also co-host of the popular writing podcast, FICTION SCHOOL.

The New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program invites you to participate in this private training event.

Seating will be on a first come, first served basis.

With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers are prepared for disasters. The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. The training course will provide an introduction to responding to a natural or man-made disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies.
