Meet our pal Jackie and her pooch, Harper the reading dog! This program provides a fun, relaxed space for kids to practice reading skills and get some puppy love at the same time. Harper and Jackie are Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause trained providers, ready to provide low-stress reading practice support. This program is a great fit for kids who love to read and those who don’t, as well as kids who just want a puppy cuddle.

Make Me an Author (in-person class)

Thursdays, 2:00 - 3:00 PM – Library Annex
This summer, kids and families have the opportunity to write, illustrate, and publish a real book! Kids will receive writing support from our staff and volunteers as they craft a story of their own. Then, using drawings, photos, or other art, kids will illustrate their work. In order to be published by the library, the story will need to address one of the following themes: anti-bullying, overcoming challenges, or coping with big feelings. Each participant will receive a bound version of their book to keep. Partially funded by the Dutchess County Office of Children and Family Services.

On Friday mornings, toddlers rule the library! This six week program includes songs, stories, and games plus a play-based learning stations, like art or parachute play. The program or portions thereof may be held outside in our courtyard to utilize our outdoor play equipment as weather allows but fully move indoors if conditions are poor. Please dress for the weather, with sunscreen and bring water.

Mad Science of the Mid-Hudson will present this hands-on workshop for pre-teens & teens in grade 5 & up. Students will devise and test techniques to handle the aftermath of an oil spill, in an oil spill simulation, and discuss how to clean up and prevent the pollution that plagues our oceans.
