Thursdays 1:00-2:00 pm – Ms. Neena, Main Library and Annex

Children need to know the fundamentals of reading in order to succeed in kindergarten. We’ll play with letters, the sounds and words they make, and the stories they tell in this exciting program. Program ends with a book-inspired craft/activity that is designed to develop the skills children need in school. Let’s read together!

    Early literacy is an important part of a baby’s healthy development. We read, sing, babble, and bounce together. Learn resources to use at home and meet other caregivers. Ends with social play.

    Each week, we’ll read a new picture book and revisit one we’ve already read, making literacy connections all along the way. Program includes literacy or sensory activity, songs, and more. Caregivers welcome but usually not required.

    Alternating Wednesdays (9/26, 10/10, 10/24, 11/7) 4:00-5:00 pm – Ms. Kate, Annex

     

    Code a different game or animation with Scratch each week. Scratch is a programming language developed by MIT especially for kids! Follow along with the Scratch tutorial from MIT then use your Scratch programming skills and creativity to make your own unique version. This program is for beginners, but those with prior experience are welcome!

    Does your baby love to bounce and play? Join Ms. Neena for a story, singing, and rhyming sure to get baby giggling. All activities are designed to enhance attention and focus, familiarize children with the fundamentals of reading and talking, and instill a love of reading. The program ends with a 10-15 minute social play session or baby-safe art activity.

    There’s more to computer science than coding and using electronics. We’ll spend each session learning how to think like a computer expert, with fun games, like “Robot cooks!” and patterning activities.

    On Friday mornings, kids rule the library! Join Ms. Neena, while the library is still closed, for an uninhibited, fun and loud story time. This program incorporates sensory, art, storytelling, music, and movement all in one to prepare children to read, write, and think critically. Topics vary by week, and the program ends with activity stations. Parents and caregivers required to remain in the library for the duration of the program.

    Selected Saturdays (9/29, 10/13, 10/27, 11/10), 10:00-10:45 am – Ms. Neena, Main Library

    All babies benefit from story time, singing, bouncing and dancing, and socialization. Designed with working caregivers in mind, our Weekend Groove is the perfect opportunity to meet other caregivers and spend time reading and singing. To improve and encourage the acquisition of language and a love for reading, we’ll sing, bounce, play, and laugh. Each session ends with 10-15 minutes of social play.

    I bet you never knew slime could be educational! We’ll flex our STEAM muscles as we make a big batch of Glow slime. Participants must wear clothes that can get messy or a provided smock.
