Young babies benefit from story time, singing, bouncing and dancing, and socialization. This is our regularly scheduled nine week program for our youngest patrons. To improve and encourage the acquisition of language and a love for reading, we'll sing, bounce, play, and laugh. Each session ends with 10-15 minutes of social play.

Our small group will focus on early literacy and math skills through a combination of hands-on activities and group story time. This is an six week series. The program or portions thereof may be held outside in our courtyard to utilize our outdoor play equipment as weather allows but fully move indoors if conditions are poor. Please dress for the weather, with sunscreen and bring water.

    Teachers say that the skills that lead to the most student success in school are their social and emotional skills. Join us to help develop these skills, as well as STEM, art, and literacy practice, all while children play! This supervised hour of fun provides a large space for children to meet and play with our outdoor play equipment, weather permitting. Please dress children for the weather and bring water. This program is designed to ease the transition to daycare, preschool, and especially kindergarten and is paid for in part by Dutchess County.

    This program is held offsite at the Gazebo on Charles Colman Avenue. 

    Meet our pal Jackie and her pooch, Harper the reading dog! This program provides a fun, relaxed space for kids to practice reading skills and get some puppy love at the same time. Harper and Jackie are Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause trained providers, ready to provide low-stress reading practice support. This program is a great fit for kids who love to read and those who don’t, as well as kids who just want a puppy cuddle.

    Slow E-Motions: Music & Movement Classes with Two Right Feet

    (1-6 years and a caregiver)

    Thursdays 10:30 – 11:15 AM – Library Annex 

    Program runs weekly for eight weeks, 7/7 - 8/26

    A program all about learning to identify, understand, and respond positively to our emotions and feelings. This program features music, dance, and instrument activities designed to explore feelings like frustration, anger, and happiness.

    Two Right Feet’s program was developed in 200 0 by a speech and language pathologist who also held a degree in dance. Hannah Demmerle, current program director, holds a degree in occupational therapy (COTA) and develops the group’s educational programs and curriculum. Live music and ASL (American Sign Language) are a few of the other highlights of Two Right Feet’s enrichment programs. Registration is required.     Make Me an Author (in-person class)

    (Grades K-5)

    Thursdays, 2:00 - 3:00 PM – Library Annex

    This summer, kids and families have the opportunity to write, illustrate, and publish a real book! Kids will receive writing support from our staff and volunteers as they craft a story of their own. Then, using drawings, photos, or other art, kids will illustrate their work. In order to be published by the library, the story will need to address one of the following themes: anti-bullying, overcoming challenges, or coping with big feelings. Each participant will receive a bound version of their book to keep. Partially funded by the Dutchess County Office of Children and Family Services.

    Can't commit to attending in-person regularly? This program is also available as a take-home kit, where families work on their draft together at home before returning their story to the library for publication.     Series of 6 kits, weekly. 7/15 - 8/19

    This program is a series of 6 take home kits; pre-prepped learning activities for children entering grades Kindergarten - 5th grade in Fall 2022 to do at home with a caregiver. To participate, a caregiver must pick each kit up from the library once they are available. Families can register for all the weeks or individual weeks.     Take science learning to a new level with these kits made by expert science teachers at Steve Spangler Science! Each week, pick up a new kit including everything you need to turn your home into a science lab. Some experiments may be messy. Caregiver oversight is recommended.

    Satisfy the need for slime with this one time pick up kit containing all the ingredients and add-ins to create a seaworthy slime! This is a messy project
