Teachers say that the skills that lead to the most student success in school are their social and emotional skills. Join us to help develop these skills, as well as STEM, art, and literacy practice, all while children play! This supervised hour of fun provides a large space for children to meet and play with our outdoor play equipment, weather permitting. Please dress children for the weather and bring water. This program is designed to ease the transition to daycare, preschool, and especially kindergarten and is paid for in part by Dutchess County.

Harper and Jackie are Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause trained providers, ready to provide low-stress reading practice support. This program is a great fit for kids who love to read and those who don’t, as well as kids who just want a puppy cuddle.

A program all about learning to identify, understand, and respond positively to our emotions and feelings. This program features music, dance, and instrument activities designed to explore feelings like frustration, anger, and happiness.
Two Right Feet’s program was developed in 200
0 by a speech and language pathologist who also held a degree in dance. Hannah Demmerle, current program director, holds a degree in occupational therapy (COTA) and develops the group’s educational programs and curriculum. Live music and ASL (American Sign Language) are a few of the other highlights of Two Right Feet’s enrichment programs. Registration is required. Make Me an Author

This summer, kids and families have the opportunity to write, illustrate, and publish a real book! Kids will receive writing support from our staff and volunteers as they craft a story of their own. Then, using drawings, photos, or other art, kids will illustrate their work. In order to be published by the library, the story will need to address one of the following themes: anti-bullying, overcoming challenges, or coping with big feelings. Each participant will receive a bound version of their book to keep. Partially funded by the Dutchess County Office of Children and Family Services.

The Diabetes Prevention Support Group / Online Program

This program is open to all who are concerned about preventing prediabetes. Each month, at these supportive meetings, we’ll be encouraging one another to maintain a nutritious, balanced diet, get plenty of exercise, and keep a positive attitude…especially when we stray from our intended goals.
Some of the members of this group have completed a year-long National Diabetes Prevention Program through a partnership with Putnam Independent Living Services and the Pawling Library.

Waxy Tissue Art Kit

This program is a take home kit; a pre-prepped learning activity for children to do at home with a caregiver. To participate, a caregiver must pick the kit up from the library once it is available.
