Garden beauty can come in small packages!

Not everyone has a big yard or acres of land for gardens.

But you can create beauty in a roadside bed, on a narrow strip by your walkway, or in containers on your deck or patio.

It just takes planning, wise plant choices, and attention to 5 Key Principles… which can enhance the design of ANY size garden!

As all parents know, managing children is not an easy thing to do. The good news is that scientists and researchers have discovered strategies and information that can help manage and support the behavior of children. Teachers often attend professional development sessions to learn about these strategies and, now, the Pawling Free Library is offering parents the opportunity to learn how they can use many of these strategies at home to support positive behavior. Join presenter Ruairi Gribbon for this series of four 1-hour, in-person sessions starting 4/26 at 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Library Annex.

4/26- Understanding the Science of Behavior

5/3- Setting Expectations and Teaching Wanted Behaviors

5/10- Positive Reinforcement, Effective Error Correction and Other Behavior Strategies

5/17- Intensive Support and Getting Help from Others

Ruairi Gribbon is the Director of the Mid-Hudson Regional Partnership Center which supports schools in the Mid-Hudson Region of New York through the goal of improving positive outcomes for students with disabilities. He is also a part-time faculty member with Marist College’s School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Ruairi has three children of his own and has been presenting information related to student/child behavior to parents and teachers for ten years. He has previously worked as classroom teacher, instructional math coach, school building leader, behavior specialist, and central office administrator.

Coloring is more than being creative, it’s a very relaxing activity that has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety.

Each week we’ll be coloring a new mandala design, while also enjoying a good round of conversation.

You don’t have to have a degree in art to participate…just some paper and color pencils.

Please join us. Relax and connect with like-minded people, and add a burst of color to your day!

Teachers say that the skills that lead to the most student success in school are their social and emotional skills. Join us to help develop these skills, all while children play! This supervised hour of fun provides a large space for children to meet and play, either inside or out, depending on the weather. This program is designed to ease the transition to daycare, preschool, and especially kindergarten and is paid for in part by Dutchess County.

The book club will be discussing Beloved, by Toni Morrison.

Are you interested in reading and discussing novels, plays, and poems by women? Then this is your Book Club! This is a fun opportunity to indulge in some great works by women writers.

We will begin each discussion with a little background history and tidbits on each female writer. I’ll ask a few questions to get us started and then it’s an open forum. My hope is that together we gain a little more insight into these books (and perhaps the authors as well).

Some of these books you may know well. Some may be books you always meant to read and never got around to! It does not matter how expert you are with the works or the authors. If you are passionate about discussing books and would like to build up your repertoire of works by women, this might be the perfect place to start. To quote Mary Shelley: “The beginning is always today.”

Hatha Yoga is one of the most popular relaxing forms of exercise.

Spend an hour with us and enjoy a new found path to tranquility.

Each session ends with a guided meditation.

Program fee: $4.00, per class.

During this fun-filled workshop we’ll be using a variety of beautiful flowers used in floral arrangements that were popular in the roaring twenties.

Step back in time with us and create a centerpiece that will add a sumptuous touch of elegance to the home.

This program is being held in honor of the Pawling Library’s centennial.

Participants should bring small sharp clippers and or sharp scissors.
Some might wish to wear an apron.

Material fee: $20.00.

NOTE: The material fee will be collected on the day of the program. Please have exact change. Credit cards will not be accepted. Thank you.

Containers will be provided.

About our presenter: Erica was the owner of The Flower Market in Westchester County for more than 20 years. She provided flowers and event planning, from simple occasions to high profile venues that included The Pierre and The Rainbow Room in New York City to, locally, Tappan Hill, The Kittle House and the Westchester Country Club. Now semi-retired, she enjoys working privately for long-time customers.

This program is a take home kit; a pre-prepped learning activity for kids to do at home on their own or with a caregiver. To participate, a caregiver must pick the kit up from the library once it is available. Kits are made to order, so registration is required. Registration required.  REGISTER HERE.

Kits available biweekly, weeks of 4/21, 5/5, 5/19, & 6/2. Our staff will email registrants once they are available.

Preteens & teens are invited to test their castle building and defense skills at this Nerf battle. We’ll build castles out of boxes to defend our “kings” from attack by the other kingdom. First kingdom to capture the opponent’s king is declared the winner. The Library will supply the boxes to build the castles and an assortment of Nerf weapon.
