    Community Service Kits

    Age range: Grades Kindergarten – 5th

    Supply kits provided – staff will email you when the kit is ready for pick up, at which point you can pick up anytime we are open.

    This is a three-kit program, available the weeks of 7/19, 8/2, & 8/16. In registering, you are automatically signed up for all three weeks of the program. However, if some program dates have passed, we cannot guarantee kits retroactively. Work on projects that bring cheer to or help our community. New and developing readers may need adult support.     Mindfulness Arts and Crafts

    Age range: Grades Kindergarten – 5th

    Kids work one-on-one with a teen mentor on developing reading skills. Teens will provide support when kids struggle and read or chat with them when they need a break. This is a six-week program. You must commit to 4 out of 6 weeks to join. Kids and families, register here.

    Got a tween/teen at home who is a strong reader? Youth 11 and older can volunteer as mentors in our Book Buddy program and earn community service hours! For more information, click here.

    We’ve got a new furry friend at the library! Harper is a certified therapy dog that loves to hear stories and is trained to work with children. Developing readers are invited to sign up for 15 minute sessions to practice their reading aloud, all while making a new animal friend. Register here.

    Principles of Animation w/Chris Siemasko: Part 2

    Stories about the Animals at a Farm Sanctuary  / Online Program

    Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary provides a lifelong home to farm animals rescued from slaughter and abuse. The sanctuary currently has 110 animals, including goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, turkeys, donkeys, and horses. The farm’s cofounders, Ellen and Bill Crain, will tell the stories of some of the animals.  The program will be of interest to children as well as adults.

    About our presenters: Ellen Crain is a retired pediatrician.  She is a professor emerita at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Bill Crain is a professor of psychology at The City College of New York. He is the author of The Emotional Lives of Animals and Children: Insights from a Farm Sanctuary.
