    Book Buddies A

    Book Buddies (Grades 1-5 & Teens/tweens 11+ years old)

    Session A: Mondays, 2:30-3:00 pm

    Please take note of the time you register for, as there is a second session of this program Mondays,  3:15-3:45 pm.

    Live via Zoom 

    This program welcomes developing and reluctant readers, and provides a space where they can work on their reading skills one-on-one with a trained teen buddy. Kids read shared materials while their teen buddies provide assistance on grammar, pronunciation, and critical thinking.

    We are also looking for teen volunteers ages 11+ who are confident readers to serve as buddies. Contact Children’s Program Coordinator, Neena McBaer (845-350-2771 or children@pawlinglibrary.org) for more information.

    Tuesday, 8/11, 10:00 am release time

    We are Pawling Strong and to show that, we’re inviting kids to help us create a banner to show we’re connected, even while distancing. Each participant will receive a square to decorate. Completed squares will be added to the unity banner, displaying in the library children’s area.

    Follow along with the video tutorial or do the activity offline with the paper instructions in the kit.

    Children’s Storybook Creations (Grades K-5)

    Have you ever wanted to write and illustrate your own children’s book? Each week, we’ll release a new video tutorial that walks children through the process of creating their own story and the pictures too! Prereaders/writers may need some adult assistance.     Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors / Online Program

    Registration is required. You can reserve a space for Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors by registering below or email Donald at adult@pawlinglibrary.org. 

    During the middle stage of dementia, the person with the disease often starts to exhibit new behaviors that can be confusing for a caregiver. These behaviors are a form of communication, and are essential to understanding the needs of the person with dementia. This program will help attendees identify common triggers for behaviors associated with dementia and learn strategies for addressing common dementia-related behaviors.

    This program is being provided by the Alzheimer’s Association.

    This program is held live over Zoom. We will dive into a gorgeous picture book and have fun making connections to what we read. Program focuses on the five keys to early literacy—singing, reading, playing, talking, and writing. Each week’s story and songs will connect to the learning activity in Read and Play At Home.

    Life is an adventure! You never know where it will take you. Nancy Chiarello has worked in many arenas, from corporate to jewelry sales to becoming a licensed massage therapist. Then – much to her surprise – at the tender age of 70, she began writing poetry…and at 71 started her own podcast!

    Come hear Nancy tell her story and read from her collection, Soul Writing, including poems like “Finding Your Path,” “The Table”, “Feet”, and the uplifting “The Red Boa” – in which she encourages us to don that iconic scarf and become in our imaginations whoever we want to be. 

    Listen through your poetic souls, and most importantly, your sense of lightness and fun.
