The UN celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. What exactly is this organization, created in the aftermath of WWII, that now has 193 nation state members? Is it a world government? Does the UN Declaration of Human Rights contradict the US Declaration of Independence? What are its successes, failures and opportunities? In this presentation, Dr. Kambalov, shares 21 years of personal experience at the UN and opens an exploration of the nuts and bolts of this institution, inviting questions and comments.

About our presenter: Dr. Sergei Kambalov was the Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies and Development before retirement in 2010 after 21 years of service at the UN. Prior to joining the UN in 1989, he was a First Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, and before that he worked in academic research on international economic relations. He has several academic publications, including a book on economic sanctions as a tool of foreign policy. Born in Riga, he grew up in Novosibirsk. He has graduated magna cum laude from the Department of Economics of the Moscow State University and has a PhD in International Economics from the Diplomatic Academy, Moscow. Sergei is a patented inventor. He and his wife live in Middlebury, Connecticut. They have four children and six grandchildren.
