Amanda Greenfield of The Grace Smith House present a workshop for teens that provides a foundation of the cycle of violence and how to identify the red flags of an unhealthy relationship. Participants will gain tools and language that will enable them to support a friend who is in an unhealthy relationship, as well as gain an understanding of the impact that dating violence has on the individual, friends, and family. At every gathering each person has 10 minutes to share a story with our group members in a very supportive environment. No one’s work and writing skills are ever critiqued. Your unique style of writing is the right way to write. Please join us every month. Relive your memories that will one day become your memoir. Surprise your family who’ve wanted you to do this. The biggest surprise you’ll find is recalling the stories of your life. We look forward to seeing you.

Join Library Children's Program Coordinator Neena McBaer for an exploration of solar eclipses in advance of the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. This program will include a short presentation about solar eclipses, highlighting what to expect when safely viewing a solar eclipse and explaining this amazing, rare phenomenon. After, youth and families will be invited to participate in several hands-on activities, including a virtual eclipse simulator, estimation games, and making a pinhole camera.

For this month's meeting of the Deeper Than Our Skins series, we will be reading and talking about Between The World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Using the author's letter to his son as inspiration, participants will be asked to write a letter to their future selves. Copies of the book are available in both English and Spanish. The Pawling Library is honored to have been selected as one of 58 libraries nationwide to take part in the Great Stories Club, a reading and discussion program for underserved teens. These competitive grants are offered by the American Library Association (ALA) with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The Library has received two Great Stories Grants and is partnering with Camino al Éxito to bring teens age 13 & up a book discussion series in English & Spanish. Homeschool Space: Elementary Third Thursday of the Month (04/18, 05/16, & 6/20), 1:00-2:00 PM – Neena, Library Annex Age range: Homeschoolers ages 5-10, or those homeschooling in Kindergarten – 4th grade. Each month, homeschoolers come together to work on a fun, engaging project with friends and other homeschoolers in our region. The theme for April's meeting is local birds. Kids will learn about birds local to our region through play. To close the program, kids will make bird inspired window clings to help keeps safe from crashing into windows. Registration is required. This will be a Q & A between Yang and a representative from the American Library Association. It is a private event for those who participate in this grant-based program.
