Homebound Services

The Pawling Library now offers free delivery of materials to persons who are physically unable to visit the library, including the elderly, the disabled, and those who are temporarily incapacitated by illness or accident. We can deliver books to retirement communities, senior centers, and private residences. You can request books of your choice, or have our Circulation Manager, Tom Clemmons, select titles according to your interests.

For more information or if you have any questions regarding the program, contact Tom Clemmons at 845-855-3444 or email him at circ@pawlinglibrary.org

To get started with home delivery, you can print out the form Homebound Services Registration form here, or fill a form out in person at the library.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a Pawling resident to receive Homebound Services?
Yes. Due to limited resources, we can only offer our Homebound Services to residents in the Pawling Free Library’s service area of Pawling, Whaley Lake, and the town of Holmes.

What can I borrow?
We can deliver books, music, movies, magazines, and audio books right to your home.

How do I know I will get materials I enjoy?
Before bringing materials to your home, we’ll schedule an initial home or phone interview. At this first meeting, we’ll discuss titles you’d like to read and areas of interest, which will help us better understand what titles you might enjoy. Most titles are offered in Large Print and Audio versions, too.

How long may I borrow the items you bring me?
The lending period for The Pawling Library items through the homebound program is flexible, but materials borrowed from other libraries through interlibrary loan may not have a flexible borrowing period. You can always contact the library or Tom about renewing any borrowed materials.

Is there any charge associated with homebound service?
No. Our service is free. Also, since we schedule pickup of materials, you cannot accrue overdue charges. You are responsible, however, for any loss or damages to library materials you borrow.

How do I sign up?
If you or somebody you know is interested in receiving homebound service, you can call Tom Clemmons at 845-855-3444  or email him at circ@pawlinglibrary.org
