Family Field Trip Series

Family Field Trip Series

This summer, the library wants to make taking trips with your kids as easy and fun as possible. Meet us at the Trevor Zoo, Great Hollow Nature Preserve & Ecological Research Center, or the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum for special animal encounters and play-based experiments by museum and animal educators! Registration in the event includes all entrance fees and program fees for the special field trip activities, as well as a small snack provided to each participant. Transportation is not provided. Because each field trip includes a unique learning activity, the age-range for each visit varies in order to reflect what is developmentally appropriate. However, we may be able to accommodate younger or older siblings on a case-by-case basis. Contact Children’s Program Coordinator Neena McBaer directly with questions about bringing younger or older siblings. Registration is required. Registration is open now for Pawling and Holmes residents. Non-resident registration (as space is available) opens 06/20. You must register for each event individually. Design Book Cover art to help decorate the Village Green!

Design Book Cover art to help decorate the Village Green!

This year, the library is participating in the tree decorating event on the Village Green. But we need help from young book lovers and artists! Kids are invited to stop by the library for their own blank book cover page, where they can draw reimagined book cover art for a favorite read. Can’t pick one up? Young artists are welcome to print a copy of the book cover template to work on at home here. Whether you finish your cover in the library with provided art supplies or take it home and decorate it, the finished artwork that is returned to the library front desk by November 21 will be weather-proofed and featured on our holiday tree for the whole community to enjoy. For more information, contact Children’s Program Coordinator Neena McBaer at children@pawlinglibrary.org or 845-855-3444.

They learned about character development and perspective taking, adding in details about how characters feel into their plots. Our team couldn’t be more impressed by their final products and perseverance! Thanks to sponsorship by Dutchess County and the NYS Office of Child and Family Services, each child will receive a free published copy of their book to keep.
