Dungeons and Dragons is being added to this summer’s teen program schedule. Teens ages 10-18 can join our band of adventurers on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 PM in the library. Summer is here, and there’s tons of exciting programs happening for children in the library! From Lydia Adams Davis’ family concert to our Core Literacy Camps, summer programs abound! Registration forms are available now! You can find them here. You can also stop by and pick up a form from the circulation desk or register online through our online portal. A general guide to our programs can be found here. Registration for our summer session programs runs from Wednesday, June 13th to Monday, July 2nd. Registration is required for all events. The registration will operate using a lottery system, as in previous years. Come drop off your form at any point during the library’s regular hours at the library’s circulation desk, pick a lottery number, and get ready for summer learning. About our presenter: With NBC News for 35 years, I was a writer and field producer on the Huntley-Brinkley show before going to Saigon as bureau chief in 1966 for more than three years, and covering the war off and on until 1973. He served as South East Asia bureau chief based in Hong Kong and then London bureau chief during the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland. He was Washington producer for Today and senior producer on Early Today and in the news division. The Pawling Library Board of Trustees would like to thank the community of Pawling for their outstanding support at our 2018 Annual Book Sale. Held at the Pawling Firehouse, the sale took place over two weekends beginning May 12th and grossed nearly $12,000 dollars. These much-needed funds go directly back to the library and are used to offset operating costs. For Trustee and Book Sale Committee member Karen Franco, one of the best parts of the book sale is “seeing people’s excitement and pleasure when they find favorite authors or new treasures in the incredible collection of 35,000 books that were donated during the course of the year. We love seeing these wonderful books getting recycled back into readers’ hands instead of ending up in a landfill.” If you were at the book sale, we likely asked you to sign our petition to place the library’s budget on the November 2018 ballot. This was our first foray into signature gathering and we were encouraged and heartened by the number of people willing to support our library....
Tuesday, May 29 7:00-8:00 pm Colin Dickey will read from his most recent nonfiction book, Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places, a cultural history of the United States via its haunted houses, hotels, graveyards, and prisons. He’ll discuss stories of famous hauntings from the Hudson Valley, as well as what those stories tell us about ourselves and our relationship to history. We’ll also discuss why some places seem to be more haunted than others, and give you a chance to tell your own ghost experiences. Registration is required. Calling all teens 11-18 years old! Searching for volunteer opportunities for the summer and/or interested in working with children? We need you! You are invited to apply to our summer internship program. Interns help out during the summer to make sure that all children who participate in our summer literacy programs have a wonderful and learning-filled experience.
